Taiwan Pulls Films From Chinese Festival
Taiwan’s film commission withdrew eight Taiwanese films late last week from the Shanghai International Film Festival, expressing concern that organizers would use the occasion to assert China’s sovereignty over Taiwan, The Associated Press reported. The organizers of a recent television festival in Shanghai identified TV series from Taiwan as originating in “Taiwan, China.” “We are worried that a similar situation to the TV series will recur,” Anne Lu, a spokeswoman for the Taipei Film Commission, told The A.P. The film festival opened Saturday night and continues next Sunday.
