Taiwan economy contracts, GDP growth falls to 1.5%

TAIPEI—Taiwan's economy unexpectedly contracted in the first quarter as a slowdown in China weighed on exports, which hurt domestic consumer sentiment and increased the likelihood that monetary policy will be kept loose to support growth.
