An estimated two million ethnic minorities are being held in large-scale internment camps in a regional "no rights zone" according to UN expert Gay McDougall: “All of these detainees have had their due process rights violated."
However, state-run tabloid Global Times said the west should not interfere and that China will try all measures to maintain stability. “It has avoided the fate of becoming ‘China’s Syria’ or “China’s Libya'.”
